The athlete’s footprints in Greek geography

It is known that Coutalianos was very popular in Greece. However, he worked at a time when the media and communication were still in their primitive stages. The athlete’s name was often surrounded by folk legends and the people who watched him lift enormous weights likened him to Hercules and Milo.
It even happened that in the various places he passed through, people would express such great admiration that they would even give his name to locations where he happened to pass through or appear. These places in the distant past may have been many, but over time they were forgotten. Through our research, we were able to identify three.
The first one we list is a spot near the city of Lavrio, which bears the name “Coutalianos location”. The second location is a bridge named after the athlete in the city of Leonidio in the Peloponnese. Finally, in the city of Ayvalik (the ancient Greek name of this city is Kydonies ), located in present-day Turkey, there is a spot called “the mantra of Coutalianos”, probably because at this point Coutalianos had performed one of his performances when he passed by there..
