1884. Arrival in Volos

 While the athlete is traveling on his sailboat from Istanbul to Athens, he makes a stop in the city of Volos. In Athens they are waiting for him as a national hero. In Volos he will make several appearances and the spotlight will be  on him.

May 5, 1884. The journalist of the above article, among other things, writes “I don’t want to describe what I saw this athlete do, because some will think I’m telling them fairy tales…”

 Stratonos (or Kazarma) Square in Volos. This is an old photo, before it was renamed to Riga Feraiu Square, as it is called today. During his stay in Volos, Coutalianos possibly  trained in that place.

April 28, 1884.  It is announced that Coutalianos will give his show at the “Apollo” theater, which is located behind the Stratonas (camp of Army)
June 16, 1884. Coutalianos makes a show of strength behind the Stratonas (camp). He comfortably bends very thick irons on his arms, lifts enormous weights and holds huge cannons that fire at him. Next week he will give a show, the proceeds of which will be donated to the construction of the hospital in the city of Volos.
